My Miami: Nicole Williams

The gorgeous Canadian-born top model–of both British and Native Indian descent–does not stop to bedazzle us in countless ad campaigns. An instant classic is the current TV commercial with Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Amy Poehler for Old Navy. Meanwhile, Nicole shows tons of glamour and personality while starring on the E! hit reality TV show WAGS. The show gives a look inside the world of today’s hottest professional athletes from the perspective of the women inside the exclusive club of spouses and girlfriends. Williams is dating Larry English, a defensive end for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The show just got picked up for another season and as always there will be plenty of glamour, laughs and, of course, drama. Being a constant jet setter across the world, Williams has fallen in love with Miami where she has found the perfect combination of relaxation and fun. We were eager to learn a bit more about “her” Miami. When in Miami you can catch me… At Miami’s top annual events like Art Basel, Miami Swim Week, or Ultra, since I love art, fashion, and music. Or you can see me at one of those cool places in Wynwood, like Wood Tavern, where I relax while eating their delicious Bok Choy and sip on their famous white Sangria. The biggest misconception about Miami is… The biggest misconception about Miami is that it has no real culture. Miami has so much more to offer especially when one takes the time to get to know the midtown area and Wynwood! The last restaurant I enjoyed in Miami was… Prime 112! It’s the hottest restaurant in Miami–in my opinion. Not only is the food delicious but also a lot of eye candy, especially for the guys–beautiful girls everywhere! It’s definitely a scene! And I do enjoy some good people watching with my meal. What surprised me most about Miami was… That if you leave South Beach and explore Brickell, Midtown Miami and even North Miami, there is a lot of art and culture. Not to mention better shopping and a completely different crowd than on the beach. It’s a lot less touristy! Aside from the weather, the best reason to return to Miami is… There are several equally good reasons to come back again and again: beautiful scenery of the people, of course Art Basel, and the other events I mentioned before. Just the whole vibe, diversity, and the incredible party life that Miami has to offer. Where else can you have this much fun by night? The first time I became really curious about Miami was… When I signed with my first Miami agency, Elite! They asked me to come and spend a couple months here to get to know the city and to see if it’s a good fit for me, so I did! It was such a pleasant experience that I fell instantly in love with the city. What happens in Miami stays in Miami…and in MSM. Any secret or funny moment you’d like to share about you and this city? What happens in Miami stays in Miami it’s true! I’m afraid I can’t spill the beans on a few Miami adventures. But, I will say I spent one New Year’s Eve there and a certain friend of mine insisted on lying down behind the Fontainebleau sign in front of the hotel to take a nap in the bushes. So it’s time to start calling up your friends and finding out what weekend plans you’ll have. Here, we’ve put together a list of some of this weekend’s low-key happenings, which we can all agree is much needed after a highly eventful Fourth of July weekend. Lookingglass Alice Join Alice and the Wonderland characters on their opening weekend in this modern retelling of the classic Alice in Wonderland. Take a journey down the rabbit hole and immerse yourself in Alice’s magical and circus like world. This show will prove to be quite the spectacle and a marvel for all ages. When: Friday July 10th – Begins at 8pm Where: The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami Dade County – 1300 N Biscayne Blvd Miami, FL Tickets: Can be purchased through www.arshtcenter.org Price: $55-$85 Craft and Craft Who doesn’t enjoy some arts and crafts every once in a while? Create your own pottery at Craft and Craft while drawing inspiration from the Women, Art and Social Change exhibition presented by The Newcomb Pottery Enterprise. While you’re channeling your inner Michelangelo sip on some delicious craft beer courtesy of J. Wakefield brewery. When: Friday July 10th – Begins at 7pm Where: Wolfsonian Museum – 1001 Washington Ave Miami Beach, FL Tickets: Can be purchased at museum entrance Price: $5 for members, $10 for non-members (includes supplies and beer samples) Additional Information: All those in attendance must be 21 and over Wynwood Art Walk Occurring the second Saturday of every month, this monthly event features opportunities to visit: art galleries, art institutions, retail businesses and local bars. Hundreds of people crowd the streets to enjoy a great night out and explore Miami’s cultural scene. When: Saturday July 11th – Begins at 6pm Where: Between N. Miami Ave & NW 23rd St Miami, FL Additional Information: This event is open to the public and most events are free of charge. Wynwood Graffiti Art Tour Stroll down the streets of Wynwood as you learn about its rich history. The tour will stop at some of the most interesting murals, and guests will learn about the genesis of street art. This tour is sure to bring you a newfound appreciation for street art. When: Saturday July 11th – Cocktail hour at 6pm, tour commences at 6:30pm Where: The tour will meet at Wood Tavern – 2531 NW 2nd Ave Miami, FL Price: $25 Additional Information: This is a walking tour that will visit about 8 different sites Sunday Market at Mary Brickell Village Come out and enjoy the warm and sunny Miami weather at this weekly farmers market. The Sunday Market will feature: art vendors, food vendors and live music. When: Sunday July 12th – Begins at 10am- 4pm Where: Mary Brickell Village – 900 S. Miami Ave Miami, FL Additional: This event is free and open to the public

EXUDE THE ULTIMATE “MIAMI COOL” By Katie Jackson The Wynwood Art District is surely becoming the new epicenter for Miami art and entertainment. Since taking over what used to be a run-down warehouse district, developers and land owners transformed Wynwood into a place that gives artists permission to create fabulous artwork that are showcased on the exterior and interior walls of the buildings within the District. Now with a multitude of art galleries, retails shops, and hot spots for nightlight and the performing arts, Wynwood is the new “it” place in Miami. Visitors can stop at the vegan-friendly Jugofresh or dine at the delicious R House, grab a drink at SHOTS or Wood Tavern all while experiencing some of the most fantastic art displays that Miami has to offer. Wynwood has become such a hot commodity that famous celebrities, models, and designers have all made appearances, even going as far as producing photo shoots and commercials. Beyoncé posted multiple photos of her adventures in the art district on her Instagram account while Kim Kardashian famously fell off of a bike while filming a commercial right in front of one of the graffiti-covered walls. It has even become a new favorite spot for Miami fashion bloggers, who use the gorgeous art-covered walls as backdrops for their latest posts. The collaboration of Aquarella Swimwear and the Wynwood Art District made perfect sense for a photo shoot. Both on the rise, and having a unique take on art and fashion in expression, the art district and swimwear label have a lot in common. Both embody a new, young, artsy-meets-chic attitude, and exude a confident style that is completely captivating the minds of many, if not all, Miamians.
