Being Great at Doing Good

Interviewed by Nadja Atwal / Cover by Sean Pavone – Shutterstock During this unusual time in Miami we have been overwhelmed with new realities and news, of which most were sadly not positive – even though Florida has handled the crises better than most states. Naturally we are gravitating to messages of hope, help and encouragement. And unless we feel totally helpless, we desire to help others and often turn to charities for that matter. In a pool full of selfless service, several organizations stick out during the Covid-19 pandemic. The Blue Card is one of them… one that has earned lots of recognition and media attention lately. We sat down with the Executive Director Masha Pearl for an exclusive interview in order to learn more… You are all over the (good) news right now and your work has gotten the praise of many – including governors; what makes your efforts so remarkable in your view? The mission of The Blue Card is incredibly unique – we are the only national organization in the United States with the sole mission of aiding needy Holocaust survivors. We are a trusted agency with a strong service and operational performance history. In April 2019, we received a four-star rating from Charity Navigator, America’s largest and most-utilized independent evaluator of charities. We are recognized with the Best in America Seal of Excellence from The Independent Charities of America. Furthermore, we are certified by the Better Business Bureau as having met all BBB standards and have been awarded the BBB Charitable Giving Alliance Seal and was named as one of the best Jewish charities since 2012. It is safe to say our work is unduplicated by any other agency and we are always reinventing ourselves to provide financial support through a number of carefully designed programs as survivors’ needs very greatly from person to person. Many people don’t know that there are currently tens of thousands of Holocaust survivors in the United States with a third living either at or below the federal poverty level. Last but not least we cater very much to the places where we are the most needed, like Miami-Dade. What a record! Now, in times like these have you noticed that people are acting less selfish and are motivated more to help others? Yes, tough times bring people together and makes one realize the importance of human connection. Giving back boosts happiness and “feel good” hormones. During such difficult times, those more fortunate want to give back and foster a connection with a Holocaust survivor. Now is a perfect opportunity to improve a survivor’s life and The Blue Card has created the following programs to do so. As an example, to combat isolation, The Blue Card is supporting survivors by undertaking a tribute video message program, giving volunteers the opportunity to submit a brief video to survivors: https://www.tribute.co/thebluecard/ These videos, family and pet friendly, are a simple, yet meaningful way to remind survivors that they are cared for. We have received an overwhelming response from our support network and countless number of video messages have been distributed to survivors. The increase in for mental health support has been dominating the news as people feel lonely and overwhelmed and yes, we addressed that issue by providing culturally sensitive and language-friendly therapy sessions via telephone. These sessions and other opportunities for connection for our survivors is especially crucial at this time. What are you focusing on? Volunteers have been ordering and delivering groceries, as well as basic essentials for survivors during the crisis. We have come to rely heavily on Amazon, FreshDirect and other providers which allow for quick deliveries with no contact to ensure safety. Andy Cohen hosted your last event. tell us about your collaboration with him? Andy Cohen was a pleasure to work with. He graciously hosted The Blue Card’s 2019 Annual Benefit Gala and was so kind to have made a personal donation and promote us on his Sirius XM radio show and even invited our staff to his show on Bravo network: “Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen”. He was very charming and charismatic, and everyone absolutely loved him! At the gala, we honored our Young Professionals and when presented with their awards on stage, Andy was kind enough to take a selfie with the group. Which other celebrities or notable people have supported your efforts ? There is a wide range … from politicians like Joe Biden and Chuck Schumer to actors like Michael Douglas, Cynthia Nixon to top journalists and authors like Ronan Farrow and Rita Cosby. How can people in Miami help your efforts best? For the last 5+ years we have been partnering with the JFCS of South Florida to co-sponsor a team to participate in the Miami Marathon. “The Blue Card JFCS” Team participated in a Marathon to raise tens of thousands of dollars to benefit survivors in the Miami-Dade area. This critical funding allows us to provide much needed support through a number of various programs. The Blue Card has many prominent donors and a Board member, Benjamin Jaffe, based in Florida who serve as ambassadors for our time sensitive mission. Miami entrepreneurs Norman Braman and David Grutman will also showcase their yachts at the show, including Braman’s 175-foot KISSES and Grutman’s 81-foot GROOT, which has hosted many of Hollywood’s most recognizable celebs. With more than 15 new yachts at this year’s show; here is a small look at what’s debuting:  BOLD | SilverYachts | U.S. Debut BOLD is the fifth, largest and most recent superyacht by Australia’s premier luxury yacht builder SILVERYACHTS, harnessing the world’s leading fuel efficiency, and technical supremacy, defined by her predecessors. Working in collaboration with renowned yacht designer, Espen Øino, Silver Yachts showcases the unique flexibility of their efficient platforms. BOLD reveals aggressive styling, expansive interior and exterior spaces. 48 Wallytender X| Ferretti Group & Wally | World Debut Hot on the heels of the world debut of the exciting new 48 Wallytender this autumn, Wally with Ferretti Group will reveal at the upcoming Miami Yacht Show the first unit of a new, fully powered outboard version of the cutting-edge Wally day cruiser. Combined with a dependable hull design and a light carbon fiber construction from the in-house experts at Wally and Ferretti Group, the result is impressive: high top speeds and very low consumptions for extended range. Preliminary sea trials have indicated maximum speeds in excess of 55 knots and a cruising speed of 40 knots with a range of 320nm. Azimut 78 | Azimut Yachts | U.S. Debut At 23.60 meters in length (77 feet) and with a beam of 5.75 meters, the Azimut 78 is bringing futuristic design and ultra-modern technology as the new flagship in the Azimut Yachts Flybridge Collection. The ultra-innovative Azimut 78 is part of the Carbon-Tech generation and the first Flybridge to be fitted with three Volvo IPS propulsion units. Alberto Mancini, who designed the sleek, futuristic exteriors, and Achille Salvagni, the creator of the sophisticated interior design, took up and won the challenge thrown down by the Shipyard to achieve the perfect balance between ever more dynamic lines and ever larger volumes. The yacht’s layout offers the utmost comfort and privacy, with the clear separation of crew and guest flows, and a highly versatile day area to meet the needs of contemporary owners. Azimut Grande 32 Metri | Azimut Yachts | U.S. Debut The Azimut Grande 32 Metri is avant-garde in every sense, not least because of the multiple unprecedented solutions that establish its right to a prominent position as one of the world’s most advanced and modern superyachts, or the advanced naval platform that is packed with technology: the combination of Carbon Tech, D2P® hull and wave piercer (which increases the length at the waterline by 1.8 meters), results in peerless consumption efficiency. My Miami features Weronika Rogowska

By Nadja Atwal Weronika Rogowska is in high demand in Miami. The Polish born model finds herself more and more away from her base in New York and more and more on the Miami beaches shooting for brands and magazines worldwide. Currently she is bedazzling us in the Australian Maxim issue.. But Rogowska – who is often compared to fellow Polish born model star Joanna Krupa, is not just a a gorgeous girl who is taking the model world by storm, she is also an academic. After finishing her master in psychology she found herself drawn to the craft of helping and inspiring others. She even created a website for that matter where she posts articles about life, business and relationships. This lead to her getting requested as both a motivational speaker and life coach – also in Miami. Her favorite quote is one she created herself “Be the light that helps others see.” Given her foreign background and unique professional diversity that swing between photo shoots and psychology, we were keen on her take on Miami… When in Miami… you can catch me at Nobu Hotel. I always stay there. Enjoying the classy beach club, organic cafe and having Nobu restaurant right there all this means you never need to leave! The biggest misconception about Miami is… that it is just a fast growing, international tourists mecca. That could lead one to believe that it’s a very one-dimensional town without much depth. Which is very wrong. Stay open minded! It’s not just a vacation destination. Miami has a lot to offer when it comes to art, fashion, food and nature. Each time I visit I discover something new. Since I’m an art fan I frequent the galleries quite often. The last restaurant I enjoyed was…. Hakkasan at the Fontaine Bleau Hotel . The San Pei Chicken Clay pot is one of their big hits…as is the lobster. Every dish is delicious and the interior is spectacular. Sleek, modern , yet cozy. What surprised you most about Miami was… Villa Vizcaya. A little Venice in Miami. It has a very European classy feel to it. Beautiful view and gorgeous Italian architecture. Miami has some history that I wasn’t aware of! Best reason to return to Miami aside from the weather? Definitely stone crab season. No wonder the wealthy New Yorkers get them shipped to their homes now from places like Joe’s Stone Crab. They are so delicious. Then of course Art Basel is a must visit with a growing international scene. I also recommend spending New Years Eve in Miami – again, here the Nobu is a great option. I had a wonderful time here last NYE. The first time I became curious about Miami… was of course when I watched Miami Vice while still living in Poland, where the show was a big hit and made us all sigh and ready to pack our bags to visit Miami. Anything special about your personal connection to Miami you can share? Well, I made my first trip with my boyfriend to Miami. It was the beginning of our love. We are still happy together. So Miami brought me luck!

One on One with Y100’s DJ Frankie P

Whether you are relaxing by the pool, laying on the beach or in dreaded bumper to bumper traffic on the Palmetto Expressway, you can count Y100’s DJ Frankie P to keep you entertained with good music and lots of laughs.  MSM recently caught up with DJ Frankie P to bring you insights on one of Miami’s most loved DJ’s. What inspired you to pursue a career in radio? I actually never intended to be on the radio I sort of just fell into it! A few weeks after graduating high school a friend of mine got me a job on a local radio station here in Miami (97.3 The Coast) working on the promotions team. I remember him saying, “this job is so easy! We drive around Miami, give away free stuff, and talk to people and you’re great with people!” Shortly after joining the promo team I started asking to shadow my boss who was the midday guy on the station and the rest is history. I fell in love, even though I was nervous to talk on a mic, I dedicated all my free time to practicing and learning how to be a personality. Early on I was inspired to be on air because of the art form that was being a personality. Now though I’m inspired by the love of our listeners. The moment someone says you put a smile on their face with something you said on air you become addicted to wanting to make people happy even if it’s just for a few seconds at a time.  How long have you been in radio and how long with Y100? In the industry, it’s been about 8 years but I’ve had my own night show now for 4 years! 2 of those at my dream job here at Y100 (this is where Drake’s Started From the Bottom starts playing).  Outside of radio any news that you should make your listeners and followers aware of?  Well I’m looking to get more involved with local charities. In previous years I always jumped at any opportunity to help out charities that helped those with breast cancer since my mom had it but I’m ready to expand and do more for my community. I also really want to get involved with the Wounded Warrior Project. Over the last year I kept having these amazing conversations with veterans and realized that so many haven’t been able to receive the adequate help they need so that’s definitely my next mission. When it comes to paying bills though I’m always going to be DJing at nightclubs and special events throughout South Florida! Finally, I’m really excited to have just started endorsing Body Armor Super Drink! What are some of your goals for the new year? Not get fired? Haha! No but seriously my goal every year is keep entertaining all of South Florida every evening and providing an escape from the craziness of the world (or just the Palmetto) even if it’s just for a few mins with good music and some laughs.  Any pending possible gigs outside of radio? Of course! While Y100 is where you can find me in the evenings Monday through Saturday I’m always bouncing around on weekends DJing at different clubs and private parties! Excited to say that I will be DJing at Hyde Miami at their Pool Party on February 3rd and at E11EVEN April 23rd. Other possible gigs are still in the works. Stay tuned for what’s to come. Any upcoming events coming up with Y100? Well we just had one of our biggest events before the new year, our Y 100 Jingle Ball presented by Capital One at the BB&T Center! It’s always exciting to see artists like Shawn Mendes, Khalid, and Marshmello but it’s even more exciting to see the looks on our listeners faces before, during, and after the show! Next big show will be probably be Mackapoolooza which we do every summer but in between that time we always invite listeners to our Southwest Sound Stage inside iHeart building whenever artist stop by to do small exclusive performances and meet and greats. Plus you pretty much always find me at every concert hooking it up with ticket upgrades before the show if you’re willing to embarrass yourself publicly for them. When your not in the studio, where in South Florida do you enjoy spending time? Even though I know absolutely nothing about sports I love going to Heat & Dolphins games! I mean let’s be honest most of are us are guilty of spending more time partying and socializing at games than we do actually watching (except for the die hard fans, props to you guys!) Aside from that I bounce around South Florida so much between appearances with Y100 and my DJ gigs that I really love spending time in my new apartment complex, Altis Pembroke Gardens. It’s like living at the FontaineBleau but in the suburbs without all the South Beach traffic (lol) Where can your listeners/fans follow you on social media and where can people reach out to book you? I’m on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. People can follow me @itsFrankieP on all networks. For any bookings/features/etc. you can contact my management company Live Media Inc. at Davidlivemediainc@gmail.com.

Q&A Sarah Raskey Masterpiece with Nadja Atwal

Interviewed by Nadja Atwal/Photos by Erik Marthaler She’s back! A visionary artist, a licensed clinical professional psychotherapist, certified art therapist and a former graduate art therapy/psychology professor at both the school of the Art Institute of Chicago and DePaul University, MSM sits with Sarah Raskey for our latest cover story. You can find her art at her own Sarah Raskey Fine Art Gallery in West Loop, Chicago where she exhibits her work exclusively. Sarah is also the co-founder/owner of Open Avenue Therapy, a Chicago-based private psychotherapy practice since 2008. She has exhibited nationally and internationally since 2000 and had created a prolific volume of work in both residential and commercial settings. Some of her notable works: She has several pieces at the Kimpton Hotel Allegro in Chicago which includes an 8’ x 6’ three-dimensional self portrait adorned with vintage jewelry, as well as 90’ of custom carpeting. Within the last years she has also created an illuminated 16’ x11’ custom art wall for MB Steak restaurant located in the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas. What made you decide to make art your profession and how did you get started? I have created since as far back as I can remember and art making could easily be considered my first love. Creating felt like this whole secret world I was connected to that held endless possibilities for me to explore and it came as natural to me as breathing.  In high school I began to take college level courses and I attended university with an art scholarship. I double majored in both art and psychology as I was completely fascinated by art as it related to body, mind and spirit which led to getting my masters in art therapy.  I deeply believed then as I do now, that art held the capacity for profound healing and could be looked at even as a planetary resource. After I graduated from college I began to exhibit and sell my work out of the love of being able to share my work and connect with others, while simultaneously working as a full time art therapist at a mental health facility. My commitment to the potentiality of art manifested into my pioneering that facilities first art therapy program servicing at risk youth living with mental illness as well as becoming a graduate professor at the art institute of Chicago. I guess what I am getting at is that art has always been so integrated into the landscape of my personal life, that art being a large part of my professional or career path was never really a decision as much as it was just never a question.  Ironically during a time period when I was physically debilitated by health issues, it was art once again that I turned to and leaned into more than ever to cope and to heal. Working as a full time art therapist at my private practice during that time period proved to be exceptionally energetically challenging after having undergone several surgeries. So I began again to use my art intensely as a tool to work through parts of my emotional and physical reality, when words were not enough. That moment in time was a pivotal catalyst that shifted my focus to more of the commercial art realm.  There was something so fragile about my health and my gift that I made a promise to my art that once I was finally on the mend, I would give my creative life much more of my time and attention. It was a way to honor my artistic journey while I continued to heal and remained deeply moved to share work differently and more robustly however I could. Some artists don’t support the commercializing of art. Others – like Dali – did it successfully and felt it was simply a way to make their art accessible to more people? Where do you stand on that topic? Entering more fully into an art market was never about anything other than my raw, pure, authentic, love of creating. For years I have been deeply driven to connect with others and cultivate meaningful dialogue about art by the sharing of my self expression. I actually see it as an extension of my work as an art therapist.  My creation of highly customized personal work for clients has undoubtedly been another way to encourage people to engage, reflect and flourish in the art realm as it pertains to their own story. It is similar in nature to that of a tattoo artist by creating something for someone else that holds deep meaning for them that they can look at every day. Perhaps I also subconsciously have always perceived the visual arts to be a bit of an unsung hero. My hero. And one I wanted to spend as much time with as possible. So it has always been a top priority of mine to raise as much awareness and accessibility to the potentiality of the visual arts as possible. This means accepting the gravity of being able to reach as many hearts and minds as possible all over our planet.  In my opinion, so long as does not disenfranchise the integrity of the work of an artist, the commercialization of art can be a healthy vehicle for allowing a broader audience to be an active part of the conversation of arts value – not just from a marketplace perspective but the value that art brings to the table in the way of self care and unity. How did the Chicago art scene react to you given that you are a woman and on top stunningly beautiful? If I am being fully transparent, I struggle to answer this. Whether in Chicago or any place else for that matter, I have always been self conscious that my being a woman in general could interfere with how my art was received and valued. That my appearance could be entirely problematic. That no matter what I have done or

My Miami – Sarah Raskey

Interviewed by Nadja Atwal In a world full of overhyped and underdelivering artists, Sarah Raskey stands out with a rare combination of jaw-dropping creative skills, academic accomplishments, commercial success, praise by critics, plus – last but not least – remarkable grace and beauty combined with an adorable personality. She is a visionary artist, a licensed clinical professional psychotherapist, certified art therapist and a former graduate art therapy/psychology professor at both the school of the Art Institute of Chicago and DePaul University. You find her art at her own Sarah Raskey Fine Art Gallery in West Loop, Chicago where she exhibits her work exclusively. Miami has a special place in her life: Sarah is the resident artist at Loews Miami Beach Hotel where she has designed and created a number of pieces including a 36’ curved and illuminated sculpture wall encrusted with natural crystals, custom carpeting throughout all of the hallway corridors and textile headboard walls in all of the 750+ guest rooms. If you can’t see it in person, at least follow her on Instagram and expect your eyes to open wide and your heart to skip a beat… Obviously we could not wait to learn about Sarah’s take on Miami… When in Miami you may catch me at… Definitely checking out a variety of new places that may have popped up in town since my last stay; but also revisiting my absolute favorites – Loews Miami Beach Hotel and Wynwood Walls are a must for me. And while I hate to…I have to give a stock tourist answer as well :I always try to carve out adequate beach time. There is no denying how brutal Chicago winters can be and Miami sun is the perfect antidote. The biggest misconception about Miami is… I think the biggest misconception about Miami is that its “best” offering is its postcard worthy beaches. I have found that there is so much more that Miami has offer. I love all of Miami’s art deco eye candy and iconic structures. It isn’t hard to peek around and find that this city has so many layers and is quite saturated with hidden gems and lots of soul. The last restaurant I enjoyed in Miami was… Byblos! Being a vegetarian it is a favorite of mine. It is this gorgeous Eastern Mediterranean restaurant with delicious vegetarian options, ambient atmosphere and these days even a swanky late night lounge. What surprised me about Miami was… Initially I found myself surprised by how art-centric the city is and how much it embraces the value of art and artists. Miami plays host to some of the most renown art happenings in the world including Art Basel and is home to a diverse and rich art culture such as the ever-evolving Wynwood Art District and Little Havana. Best reason to return to Miami aside from the weather? I am drawn to Miami’s colorful and full spectrum of nightlife and happenings and Miami’s overall “come as you are” vibe which makes it easy to just dive in and become immersed in the fabric of the community and culture. One of my very favorite things to do while visiting Miami is to listen to the spectrum of live music it has to offer and indulge in the electrifying vocals. Miami is brimming with unique spots to catch great live performances and some of my favorite spots showcase flamenco dancers. Its a specific kind of vibrance and one worth seeking out. First time I became really curious about Miami was… I came to visit Miami for the first time when I was 20 years old. Ironically, I stayed at the Loews Miami Beach Hotel, and I will never forget just how special it all felt. I couldn’t put my finger on it then. But years later, I see exactly why Miami felt so special and why it will always have a place in my heart not only for my artwork but for my experiences. What happens in Miami stays in Miami…and our magazine. Any secret or funny moment you ‘d like to share about you and this city? I’ve had no shortage of epic or comedic moments in Miami, and I should probably only say that much! But what I can say, is that in my experience, what happens in Miami actually does not stay in Miami! I have serendipitously met some of the most incredible people in Miami over the years who I would consider dear friends still to this day. So while the details of our adventures may stay in Miami, the friendships have followed me home and I am grateful for that.

Floridians Turn To Solar Energy As A New Investment Strategy

By MSM Staff Florida is known for its exceptional climate with abundant natural resources spread across the state. This makes the Sunshine State one of the global leaders in Renewable Energy, both in research, development and alternative fuel sources. However, after Hurricane Irma, it was clear that the issue of access to solar power was a massive problem in the State. With the power outage and the delay in restoring power supply, residents were forced to figure out how to power their households. This motivated most residents to consider switching to renewable energy by getting solar panels for their homes.   Although there was an initial restriction to this, the Sunshine State has decided to take a new turn with regards to solar power by approving the lease of Solar to Floridian households. With solar power being a more sustainable alternative for long-term electricity production, a significant number of residents are already making the switch. According to the Solar Energy Industries Association, Florida has the third greatest rooftop solar potential in the country. However, it ranks 14th in installed solar capacity. This new change in policy will boost the growth of both rooftops and utility solar installations in Florida.  But what is even more worth noting about the solar energy concept is that it presents an intriguing new investment concept. In the US companies like Commtrade Solar Group attract clients with a Solar Tax Equity  strategy which can be used (and this is just one of several positive aspects) to significantly lower or even totally eliminate your Federal income tax.   Other Floridians are turning to European sources for their solar investment strategy. “ It’s remarkable how many inquiries we keep getting from American investors. They see the profitable energy market and want to use the state guarantees of the largest European economy here in Germany” said Andreas Becker, representative, Lightcore Energy. What companies like Lightcore do is to propose a very easy and transparent concept for private investors to become a solar power plant owner with sizable, predictable returns. At the same time, investors find the idea appealing that they are part of an environmentally friendly production that benefits not just them but our future generations.   Having one of the highest irradiation levels and fast-growing demand, investors are beginning to see companies like this as more than a bet on energy prices. One’s investment guarantees at least 7% annual growth for 20 years – independent of price fluctuations in the energy market . As a result no one is surprised that  investors are excited about solar power plants and, of course,  Brickell is all over this.

Top Fashion Blogger Karen Huggins Shares Her Favorite Miami Styles

I am Karen! A Venezuelan who spends as much time as possible on her greatest passion: traveling and exploring new things. What I love most are the people I meet and the way every place expresses fashion. It’s about discovering, feeling and living experiences, getting out of your comfort zone and enjoying the great adventure that life is.   Since I was a kid, I was obsessed with traveling the world that’s why I decided to study International Foreign Affairs. Traveling is the best way to learn and educate ourselves.    I have been living abroad since October 2007, taking a piece of every place in my heart: from Barcelona the beautiful multicultural philosophy, from Madrid the joy, from Argentina the passion, from Miami the sunshine state of mind and from Venezuela (my country) the latin flavor.   Fashion is my passion and I decided to create my personal blog on July 2017 in order to share with people my style ideas, travel tips and insights around the world. I want to highlight that fashion is for everyone, mixing high-street with high-fashion and most importantly, that style is all about being effortless chic.   I’m based in Miami since 2014 and would love to show you a list with my 5 favorite styles for Miami:   BBQ day: The weather in Miami is hot half of the year so I like to wear a light maxi dress, wedge sandals or mules (when in doubt https://www.revolve.com/ for dresses and shoes). Brunch: I like the classic and girly style so I will go with shorts and a  statement tank top – can be paired with high heels espadrilles and a tote bag  (I`m obsessed with the Artisan of IQ handbags and earrings https://artisansofiq.com/ )  Date night: a Black dress is always a good idea, I like the classic style for a date.   Events: I love Blazers and if I can wear them as a dress.. better! I pick a colorful blazer dress and elegant sandals, I would add statement earrings.  Now as for beach wear, I love the unique prints and designs from Camilla www.camilla.com and Agua de Coco Swimsuits and beachwear (check their popular instagram @aguadecoc). Don’t forget your sunglasses  sunglasses and hat! My 5 favorite beauty products to go with it: Sunscreen: SPF 50 every day on the face Serum:La Prairie Anti-Aging Rapid Response (it`s amazing how it erases dark spots and little blemish scars) Hydratate cream:La Prairie Interception Power Duo (Day-Night) BB Cream Dior: Dior Hydra Life BB Cream (the secret for a flawless skin in one product) Mascara: I always used luxury lines mascaras because I thought they were the best but once I found NYX Worth the Hype Mascara (recommended by an amazing makeup artist @dannymiamipower), I was amazed. Lip liner: Maybelline Nude lip Liner.    Check Karen’s blog www.karenhugginsblog.com  and follow her on instagram @karenhuggins_blog

Travel Talk with Lea Black

If Miami had a queen, it would be Lea Black. Smart, regal, powerful, classy and (luckily we live in America) stylish! Our favorite renaissance woman shines with IQ and EQ – so obviously we cared for her take on traveling and caught up with her just before she took off on a trip to LA … Lea Black:  Travel is usually stressful for most people. Some people love the travel part and others just love the getting there part. I’m the just get there girl. The airports, airplanes, preparation, scheduling, packing, carting the luggage around part is not something I enjoy, in fact I dread it.  But what is more exciting than being somewhere fabulous on a trip, especially a luxury trip? So, for me I like to keep it simple and basic. Travel light. Take things that are easily interchangeable, mix and match, comfortable yet chic. Items that don’t need a lot of fuss, that would be the ironing or steaming thing.  So here’s my plan… For clothes, a little black dress, a pair of black slacks, a pair of jeans, some casually elegant tops and shoes that will go with any of it, like a pair of basic pumps for night, platforms for day and a comfortable pair of walking shoes. If you have a basic blazer that goes with everything that’s an easy upgrade from a casual look, especially when you add the jewelry and a scarf. Add your undies and pj’s and you’re all set.  Depending on the length of travel, I may take a couple of extra slacks or tops, but always things that I can mix and match which will make for several outfits. Pack a few scarfs that go with everything, a day handbag and a night handbag, and maybe a clutch. A gorgeous scarf worn in an elegant style will make any outfit highly styled. Sometimes I take or wear a belt.  For accessories, sunglasses, perhaps a hat that packs well and the entire wardrobe will fit in a carry bag. The night hand bag will fit in the day bag and I carry that on the plane in my tote bag along with any cash or jewelry and identification. If traveling internationally convert a few dollars into local currency in advance so when you arrive you have cab fare, tipping or any miscellaneous items you might want to pick up on the way to the hotel.  Add a stunning pair of sunglasses and you’re all set.  Don’t laugh, but if I’ve used items I know I won’t use again for the duration, like things that need cleaning or items I’ve purchased along the way, I fold/ pack them nicely and put in a small box I have the concierge at the hotel provide when I check in and the day before I leave I have my pre paid ground Fedex label ready to put on the box and drop it off at the concierge, usually to arrive about two days after I’m home. This lightens my return luggage and allows a little extra space for any last minute purchases.  I’ve found if I roll items verses fold them in my carry on, they’re far less wrinkled and usually don’t require much steaming. But if they do, the quick easy remedy is to put on a clothes hanger and hang in the bathroom and turn on the hot water in the shower and the wrinkles steam right out. For jewelry, and yes, I’m an addict. I only take the Fine jewelry that I can wear unless it’s a long trip. And if I do take a few extra small pieces they are usually safety pinned inside my bra or on my person, (I have been known to wear two watches at once on a plane, hidden under long sleeves or a necklace and pearls, hidden under a scarf). But be aware of what might set the security alarm off and if a concern put in a small bag inside your handbag and as soon as I get through security, I head to the restroom with my secret jewelry plan. My jewelry is safer on  me than in my handbag. And if I have to exit in a hurry, I won’t need to try to grab my jewelry while exiting the plane. In addition I usually pack a few pieces of fashion jewelry, depending where I’m going and length of trip I may just wear or carry mostly fashion/ costume pieces. Earrings, necklace or pearls and cuff, is all you need if you wear a ring and keep it on. Never ever take off a ring to wash your hands. Only take it off to put away or to clean.  And the second I get to the hotel- I lock my good pieces in the room safe unless I’m wearing them. When I book my hotel, I require three things: a no smoking room, a tub, and a secure safe. Other than that I just try to go with the flow.  Cosmetics and toiletries;  I have pre packed at all times in a small clear bag the basics, a new unwrapped tooth brush and tooth paste. My daily skin care routine that is about a three – minute regime a night and a one-two minute regime every morning. I of course use the LeaBlackBeauty facial wash every morning and every night. Followed by the LeaBlack serum day and night. I use the LeaBlack Intensive Moisturizer Lotion under my make up in the morning and the Lea Black Beauty Intensive Moisture Creme at night. This keeps my skin completely hydrated and keeps my skin and pores clean. To help keep the pores small and unclogged and my skin buffed and with a glow, I use the LeaBlackBeauty Exfoliator. This is my Miracle Secret that I use two to three times a week to scrub off the old cells and deep cleanse the pores. That’s my daily skincare regime quick and easy – 5
