Wynwood & Aquarella Swimwear

EXUDE THE ULTIMATE “MIAMI COOL” By Katie Jackson The Wynwood Art District is surely becoming the new epicenter for Miami art and entertainment. Since taking over what used to be a run-down warehouse district, developers and land owners transformed Wynwood into a place that gives artists permission to create fabulous artwork that are showcased on the exterior and interior walls of the buildings within the District. Now with a multitude of art galleries, retails shops, and hot spots for nightlight and the performing arts, Wynwood is the new “it” place in Miami. Visitors can stop at the vegan-friendly Jugofresh or dine at the delicious R House, grab a drink at SHOTS or Wood Tavern all while experiencing some of the most fantastic art displays that Miami has to offer. Wynwood has become such a hot commodity that famous celebrities, models, and designers have all made appearances, even going as far as producing photo shoots and commercials. Beyoncé posted multiple photos of her adventures in the art district on her Instagram account while Kim Kardashian famously fell off of a bike while filming a commercial right in front of one of the graffiti-covered walls. It has even become a new favorite spot for Miami fashion bloggers, who use the gorgeous art-covered walls as backdrops for their latest posts. The collaboration of Aquarella Swimwear and the Wynwood Art District made perfect sense for a photo shoot. Both on the rise, and having a unique take on art and fashion in expression, the art district and swimwear label have a lot in common. Both embody a new, young, artsy-meets-chic attitude, and exude a confident style that is completely captivating the minds of many, if not all, Miamians. Gallery Nights SLS Style

By Nycole Sariol Every Wednesday, a colorful audience flocks to the sushi-hall of fame, Katsuya at the SLS Miami Beach, to witness the long-awaited makings of local artists in the South Florida community, otherwise known as Gallery Nights. This week, the likes of the oh-so talented Claudio Picasso showed us a thing or two about long brush-strokes mixed with smoky undertones to create a monochromatic concept. “I tend to find that old monochromatic photos translate well when I’m actually going to do something in one tone and, also, it gives it an interesting classical feel,” the young artist speaks of his recent collection. One-tone wonders weren’t the only piece of art that was floating around the Dragon Lounge that night. The “Saki Sangria”, a translucent drink of choice at Katsuya, turned evening hand accessory, a refresher made to stimulate mind and body while pondering the omnipresent art that filled the room, made with flavored Bacardi, white cranberry juice and saki, infused with yuzu and basic syrup, topped off with some cubed Fiji Apples and oranges. To close off the night, Deborah Gutierrez, Katsuya’s general manager, presented the unveiling of the Saki bottle for the week; in which the artist for that week dedicates a custom-made Saki bottle to his or her special guest for the evening, in this case, going to Sunita Bhagwan of Hot Listings Miami and her husband, Brandon.

La Collaborazione

NOEL & UBERTO GUCCI By Reagan Lightsey Photo by Henry Perez     After first seeing Miami artist Noel’s dramatic images that seem to jump right off the canvas, it is no wonder that Uberto Gucci – of the famed fashion family of the same name – decided to collaborate with him in creating “La Collaborazione”: an unprecedented event that premiered on November 17th. The exhibit, held at the newly renovated Miami Beach Botanical Garden, was followed by a reception at the Raleigh Hotel. The first two paintings of La Collaborazione, were unveiled by Noel and Uberto Gucci during Noel’s 2010 Mediterranean exhibits. “I wanted to concentrate in the origins of the Gucci family,” said Noel of the collection. “That’s why I decided to pay homage to their original equestrian designs and the family’s love for horses -which it was what they started designing before it became a major fashion house.” Not only did Noel focus on the original concept of the fashion house as a whole, but he also concentrated on the foundation of the Gucci family’s birthplace, Florence, Italy.  “Of course, because they are originally from Florence, I was inspired by it, as well, since it is the birthplace of the Renaissance,” said Noel. “I mixed my style – the classical element that it already has with the foundation of the family’s design of everything equestrian.” By weaving authentic scarves, leather and horse bits that were originally used as accessories for the riders (granted to him straight from the Gucci family archives!) into his work, Noel certainly captured the air of sophistication that accompanies the family name. “My work is known for its dimension and movement,” explained Noel, “which is why it was easy to add the actual 3D elements into it…I used the scarves to create a cohesive scene with the whole collection…The elements on the paintings are directly from the original accessories made by the Gucci family.” Truly, the seamless incorporation of these renowned pieces provided by Uberto Gucci is something to behold.  If fashion, is indeed, wearable art, then this collection is certainly a celebration of the two worlds colliding.
