Feathers, Angels and Music – The Victoria’s Secret Runway Show 2013/2014

Every year, we torture ourselves by counting down the days until Adriana Lima and her band wagon of long-legged gems strut down the runway for the most anticipated show of the season – The Victoria’s Secret Runway Show. The Victoria’s Secret angels aren’t the only ones that blessed the stage this year at the Lexington Armory in New York on November 13th! Musical guests such as Taylor Swift and Neon Jungle accompanied the fallen angels, providing the audience – that included the likes of Valentino Garavani and Adam Levine – with stellar performances! Over-exaggerated feathers, whimsical drapery and blowup happy-faces were amongst many favorite looks that stole the show and seduced our visual sensory on Wednesday evening. What were your favorite heaven-sent looks of the night? By Nycole Sariol

Fall 2013 Trend Superlatives

Class Clown This season, don’t take yourself too seriously! These class clowns know a thing or two about bringing the quirky fun back into fashion! Wear a comic book around your hips, slap some faces on your feet and let out a deep chuckle when nobody’s watching – it just feels good! Most Likely to Succeed These two blingers are at the top of their class for a reason! If you’re looking to stop traffic on your lunch break or turn some heads at happy hour, these are your best bet to make that grand impression no matter what scene you step out onto! Give yourself a boost of success this season! Most Creative Every class needs a game-changer or two! When pondering about those individuals who continue to think outside the box – season in and season out – Mr. Wang and Miss Olympia displayed the ultimate inventiveness! Busting out some caped pants and a clutch of box office proportions, however, propelled these two to reigning champ status, seizing the throne of creative classmates! Best Hair Girls, it’s okay to be a little jealous. These two saucy minxes (no pun intended) dominated this spot not just by achieving the ultimate hair tousle! This season’s motto is the more fur, the better! So, let your hair down and be the envy of your friends’ eye! Most Popular For these shoes and this leather, hind trend, the word popular might be an understatement! It was no secret who occupied the feet of some of the most important names of fashion on the steps of Lincoln Center for NYFW this past September, or has managed to find its way onto every wearable piece of item imaginable (i.e. shoulders, leather sweaters, pants, pleated skirts – the works!)! Making these two social butterflies the coolest of cool kids! Best Eyes Here’s looking at you, kid! You don’t have to bat a full pair of lashes to win best eyes this season! Just follow in these two’s footsteps! All it takes is an over-exaggerated, rounded lens and some cat-eye sunnies to take home the prize for Fall’s best! Nycole Sariol

Etro Comes to Bal Habour

Italian designers are no strangers to the upscale universe of Bal Harbour; so it was no surprise that the Italian designer, Etro, known for his exceptional paisley prints and deluxe fabrics, settled in nicely to its new home officially Wednesday, November 13th, on the second floor of the grandiose shopping center. The night was done magnificently with the help of high-profile faces and even higher-priced items, draping the bodies of tall, statuesque models in an applause-worthy presentation of Etro’s Spring/Summer 2014 collection just outside the store. Christmas came early! Guests were greeted with edible delicacies, floating on the trays of young, fresh-faced servers, who made sure no one was left hungry, while cocktails occupied the refined palates of the privileged invitees. Silence was an apparent absconder at the cultivated fashion event; the musical notes of the Dj for the night, clouded the sound waves, but were overtaken by the chatter of the enthusiastic crowd that couldn’t keep quite about the arrival of one of their favorite designers. Miami Fashion Network Launch

Future, South Floridian designers, brace yourselves! Miami wants to help you be the next Givenchy or Proenza Scholer! No, seriously – it does! This past Thursday Miami Fashion Network celebrated the launch of their fashion source database right in the heart of the Design District. The party kicked off with the sweet sounds of the female tag-team, DJs S&M in the always contemporary and artful Arevalo and Sponder Galleries. The who’s who of the Miami Fashion community filled the swanky sphere, dressed in their most capably resplendent outfits, serving as walking, talking, Rick Owens and Celine billboards – leaving no signs of under-dressed patrons in sight! “This directory, miamifashionnetwork.com, is a one-stop shop for designers and suppliers, where everyone can unite and grow their businesses together. We work with designers, who are just trying to start their line, and help them start to finish,” founder and CEO of Miami Fashion Network, Jessica Anderson, shared with us. Textiles, patternmakers, fashion attorneys – you name it, Miami Fashion Network will hand it to you on a silver platter, guiding you step-by-step to success! In addition to providing future hopefuls with the necessary tools in order to triumph in one of the hardest industries to break into, the fashion database also will host a job bulletin, on-site support, and one-on-one education, in which the site assists and coaches design members with marketing strategies, branding, merchandising and beyond! Fight For a Cause: Fashion and Bloomingdale’s Join Forces

By Nycole Sariol Fashionistas are always drawn to the style power and lure that Bloomingdale’s has to offer. However, this past Thursday, its almighty force field trapped us in for a different reason – Breast Cancer. Bloggers, photographers and prominent figures within the Miami fashion scene congregated on the second floor of the colossal Bloomingdale’s Aventura to have some fun during Breast Cancer Awareness Month by staring it straight in the eye with a Peace Love World runway show that featured 30 of Miami’s most recognized bloggers alongside the indefinite inhabitance of some leggy models to help get the job done. The event was hosted by Miami’s very own fashion poet, Annie Vasquez, who recently lost her grandmother to breast cancer last year. Guest stars polished the night off such as Glamour illustrator and author of the autobiographical graphic novel Cancer Vixen, Marisa Acocella Marchetto, and Bob Carey of the Pink Tutu Project.

The Grand Opening of H&M in Pembroke Pines

By Nycole Sariol Men, women and children alike anxiously awaited in a legendary single-filed line that wrapped around the insides of the Pembroke Lakes Mall for the Grand Opening of Broward County’s first H&M store! The fashion sanctuary welcomed hundreds of future customers at noon yesterday as the store’s employees cheerfully greeted them by forming two lines creating an aisle to really make their guest feel special while they made their way towards the countless racks of clothes, shoes and accessories. The Swedish company is best known for their affordable prices and “ahead-of-the-game” trends, so it’s no wonder why citizens of Miami-Dade and Broward Counties joined forces as early as 5 O’clock in the morning, competing to be the first 100 people to snag an “Access to Fashion Pass”, giving them the chance to win up to $300 to do some major retail damage in the new location!

Nick Verreos coming to South Florida

Panamanian celebrity fashion designer Nick Verreos is visiting Southern Florida for the launch of his line at Dillard’s in Pembroke Pines on June 1st at 2PM. Nick Verreos is a highly successful fashion designer, and TV Guide Network’s red carpet host and correspondent.  In 2001, Nick co-founded NIKOLAKI, with design and business partner, David Paul. NIKOLAKI sold in over 150 stores in the US, Japan, and Latin America, and was featured in various publications including WWD, Lucky, GenLux, Us Weekly, and People Magazine. In an effort to help women look and feel their best, Nick has just launched the NV Nick Verreos dress line in Dillard’s department stores.  “I’ve incorporated my love of draping and color and also infused my years of knowledge as a fashion designer with details, fit, and shape that will flatter every woman’s figure, says Nick.  “Every woman deserves a red carpet moment. For 10 years, I’ve designed a high-end collection that has been worn by everyone from Katy Perry, Carrie Underwood, Heidi Klum, Eva Longoria to Beyonce. And now with NV Nick Verreos, I’m excited to bring this contemporary line of dresses to women across America!” MSM’s Carissa Davis goes One on One with Nick Verreos – The Dress Collection Interview What makes you most excited about your dress line for Dillards department stores? What makes this line different from any of your previous collections (other than price)? I’m so excited for the launch of my new “NV Nick Verreos” dress line, more importantly because this is the first time my designs are available across the country, as opposed to only in specific boutiques or only through “special custom order”. With my high end line of “NIKOLAKI” cocktail dresses and gowns, I had a limited reach of customers (especially with the four-digit price points) but with “NV Nick Verreos” available at about 50 Dillard’s PLUS online, it can reach a “national” market of fabulous women who want to look even more fabulous…and yes, at a lower price points since these dresses retail from $108-$168. What is your inspiration for your dress line for Dillards? My inspiration for “NV Nick Verreos” collection of dresses comes from my travels and visiting museums (paintings, sculptures), architecture, buildings. For this Spring/Summer collection, I was inspired by the Amalfi Coast of Italy and one of my favorite places to travel to, Positano. In general, however, I’m most inspired by strong confident women who are not afraid to take chances when it comes to fashion and look chic, sexy and powerful, all at the same time. Those women ARE my inspiration for “NV Nick Verreos”. How do you incorporate your everyday experiences into your designs? In terms of my “everyday experiences”, I would say those are not necessarily in every dress but instead my dresses definitely have my “DNA”; I’m half Greek and love interpreting the “Grecian Goddess” draping I love to do, in my designs. My other half is Latino, my mom is from Panama and I grew up in Venezuela so these dresses have a little bit of the fiery hot and very confident Latina woman in them! You might see that in the bold colors or more body-con shapes. Who did you have in mind when you were designing your dress line for Dillards? When I was designing “NV Nick Verreos” I thought of that confident self-assured woman I spoke of in the beginning. I always say this line is not for the “Wallflower” girl who wants to stand in the corner with your “typical” black sheath dress, but more for that woman who is not afraid to be seen across the room. She wants to be noticed and be complimented and these are dresses that give her power, confidence and as I say “an ego boost”. My “NV” woman reads all the fashion magazines, all the blogs and wants a dress that looks as if it’s $600 but for $108! She also wants to upgrade from those cheaper dresses (from “Fast Fashion” stores) that either don’t fit her right or start coming apart after only being worn twice! What is the best accessory a woman can pair with the dresses from your dress line for Dillards? Besides having me next to them as they make their entrance into a dinner/event/party…I think the (next best) accessory and/or accessories for my dresses would include one or two metallic cuffs/bracelets, a great pair of pumps, nude ones or metallic, and a fabulous clutch. Now, she’s ready for a night out in her new “NV Nick Verreos” dress. On the opposite spectrum of styling, a woman can accessorize one of the printed crepe dresses or draped jersey ones with some simple earrings, gold strappy sandals and then they are ready for a Sunday Brunch! Did your childhood play a role in your pursuit of a career in fashion and design? And if so, how? I would definitely say that “Yes!” my childhood did play a role in pursuing a career in fashion and design. As a little boy, we traveled a lot and my first memories of women with style were the fabulously uniformed flight attendants from Lufthansa, KLM, Pan Am, from back in the 70’s (yes, I am aging myself!). Also, growing up in Venezuela, I was very influenced by watching the “Miss Venezuela Pageant” and especially when they would have a GLORIOUS Fashion Show during the “evening gown” competition. I remember being 6 or 7 years old thinking “Wow, I want to make those dresses!”. What three style tips do you have for Fall 2013 trends? What should women keep their eyes out for? I would say for Fall 2013, women should keep their (style) eyes out for: Eastern Influences: Look for dresses with Obi waist wraps and Kimono/Batwing Sleeves. Leather Accents: Whether it is Faux or Real Leather; mix with Jersey and Stretch Woven fabrics for a modern and direction accent. Color Blocking: This will be one of the biggest trends for Fall 2013. Look for unique
