The Grammys 2014 Leading Ladies!

Let’s face it; the Grammys aren’t usually recognized for their over-the-top motifs. Fashion isn’t the purpose of why the world’s best musicians gather round in order to honor this night, single-handedly devoted to music and all things noise. But even so, we were able to easily distinguish who was there to watch the show and who was there to put it on! Allow us to introduce the leading ladies who took the Best Dressed title home at the 2014 Grammys! Queen B. From savage and wet-headed in her powerhouse opening act at the Grammys to totally transforming into a white jasmine with soft, wavy locks – Queen B proved once again why she sits upon an untouchable throne. The Drunk in Love temptress sat next to her jiggaman in a backless, white lace gown exquisitely done by none other than Michael Costello. Got me looking so lacey right now! Hov didn’t mind it. Taylor Swift. Taylor Swift has come a long way in the fashion 5k of life; she’s landed herself on The Don’t List more than she would care to admit, and has repetivitely bored us with her predictable pageant-queen gowns and overly-perfect, spiral curls. However, on this very night of vocal appreciation, she stunned us all when she showed up to the Staples Center looking like a ray of light. The unapologetic songstress flaunted a brilliant, metallic dress by Gucci Premier. Making sure not to hide an inch of the beaded number, Swift tucked away her signature tendrils and swept up her blond tresses in a seamless ponytail, with just a hint of bangs hanging loose. Iggy Azalea. This singer/songwriter took a whimsical approach in the celebration of music notes and melodies. Iggy Azalea, thought the Grammys to be the ideal occasion to showcase a little Pre-fall Ellie Saab embroidery. The sleeveless, sheer gown frosted with sequin seemed to adhere to the mold of the night – white, neutral, hues reign dominant!

A Look Back: The Most Iconic Bags of 2013

2013 was a year of incredible moments: Beyoncé dropped a bomb on us, aka her Visual Album, without so much as a peep – Poof PR minions, be gone! Miley had a mental breakdown in front of millions of people via the VMAs; but perhaps the most memorable moments reside in the form of a woman’s handbag. That’s right, forget the celebrities – show us the bags! We are here to bring you the most iconic bags of 2013! 1. The Chanel Hula Hoop Bag: Mr. Lagerfeld makes no mistake of gracing us with only the best in outrageously fabulous designs and controversial runway shows. That’s why it was no surprise, when the “hand-bag”, intended for the beach, in the shape of a full on hula hoop came swaying down the catwalk for Chanel’s Spring/Summer 2013 collection. This oversized Chanel-O, however not for sale to the public, was made in smaller versions for the trend-obsessed and woven-leather connoisseurs. The likes of this behemoth is sure to hang from the walls alongside Picasso and Van Gough. As impractical as it may be, we applaud Karl for his ceaseless flare for the theatrics!   2. All things Charlotte Olympia: Charlotte Olympia first stepped onto the scene in 2007 and has been serving as fashion’s comic relief ever since. Although we would love to pick just one of Charlotte’s wacky creations, inspired by the 1940s in all of its glorious kitschiness, we simply cannot! The English born designer can make anything into your night’s clutch, from a clock to a gummie bear – you name it, she’ll make it! Keep the laughs coming, Charlotte dear!   3. The Celine Trapeze Bag: Perhaps the bag that made the biggest splash this year was Phoebe Philo’s love-child – the Trapeze Bag. We all either have it or lust for it; either way it has been the top of our credit card-maxing agendas! Not only are the consumers gobbling every inch of this bag up, but every fellow designer, as well! Copycats like Philip Lim and to Alexander Wang are showing their appreciation by adding similar styles to their collections. You must have done something right, Phoebe! Dinner in Paradise – Round Two

Farms aren’t supposed to be pretty and lush with greenery; they are not supposed to be home to wild, exotic, edible flowers and tropical fruit. Rarely are they known for hosting intimate dinner parties, in which five, different chefs from five star restaurants prepare a very individual five-course menu; but that’s not the case for Homestead’s own Paradise Farms. Founded by Gabriele Marewski, this five-acre property emphasizes heavily on the concept of the exchange of energy from the deepest reach of the universe back down to our green home, earth. The belief of everything being tied together in a cohesive participation not only reflects on the staff that believes in a “green” life-style, but the supreme caliber of the flavors from the fresh, “in-house” produce. This month, the farm hosted the second Dinner in Paradise of the season, inviting the best local chefs to comprise a delicious and innovative five-course menu for their dining guests. Prior to the vegetarian food fest, the guests were able to tour the grounds and get a first hand experience of how farm life in South Florida was all about. Prior to suppertime, the guests were greeted with mouth-watering appetizers such as Yukon Gold Potato Corks, Compressed Mojito Watermelon, and Tempora Squash Blossom filled with Hiratake Duxelles. Finally, a bell was rung, indicating us that our vegetarian, culinary adventure of being wooed by only the best, local chefs had begun. Accompaning each very individual plate, were various Spanish wines – mostly hailing from Galicia – to complement and further enrich each savory bite. This dinner in farmland paradise was not only a night to boldly and organically awaken the taste buds, but to appreciate the simplicity and subtleties that only our beloved Paradise Farms can entertain. Until next time… First Course: Chef Phillippe Raynaud – Farmer’s Row of Tomato Tartar, Paradise Farm Vegetable, Herbs & Flowers paired with Penamonte – Verdejo 2012.             Second Course: Chef Richard Smith – Paradise Farm Garden Salad entailing Paradise Greens, Seasonal Radishes, Rainbow Carrots, Florida Avocados, Pickled Ginger Vinaigrette, paired with Viega Naum – Albariño 2012.                         Third Course: Chefs Jouvens & Joe Wiktorek – Paradise Farm Oysters Mushrooms & Maliber Spinach, Pierre’s Garden House Preserved Key Lime in Local Sea Salt and Prossecco Cream, paired with a full body Bodegas Riojanas – Crianza 2010 “Puerta Vieja” Rioja.                         Fourth Course: Chef George Patti – Pan Seared Maine Scallop, Paradise Farmed Arugula and French Breakfast Radish, Blood Orange Carambola Vinaigrette, House Smoked Paprika Romesco Sauce and Pickled Mustard Seed paired with a Bodegas Riojanas – Reserva 2006 “Vina Albina” Rioja.                         Dessert: Chef Santiago Puga – Crumble  Fruit Torte, Crispy Sable Bar with Rosemary Roasted Granny Smith Apples, Spiced Mango Crémeux, White Zinfandel Mascarpone Cream.                         By Nycole Sariol

Feathers, Angels and Music – The Victoria’s Secret Runway Show 2013/2014

Every year, we torture ourselves by counting down the days until Adriana Lima and her band wagon of long-legged gems strut down the runway for the most anticipated show of the season – The Victoria’s Secret Runway Show. The Victoria’s Secret angels aren’t the only ones that blessed the stage this year at the Lexington Armory in New York on November 13th! Musical guests such as Taylor Swift and Neon Jungle accompanied the fallen angels, providing the audience – that included the likes of Valentino Garavani and Adam Levine – with stellar performances! Over-exaggerated feathers, whimsical drapery and blowup happy-faces were amongst many favorite looks that stole the show and seduced our visual sensory on Wednesday evening. What were your favorite heaven-sent looks of the night? By Nycole Sariol

Fall 2013 Trend Superlatives

Class Clown This season, don’t take yourself too seriously! These class clowns know a thing or two about bringing the quirky fun back into fashion! Wear a comic book around your hips, slap some faces on your feet and let out a deep chuckle when nobody’s watching – it just feels good! Most Likely to Succeed These two blingers are at the top of their class for a reason! If you’re looking to stop traffic on your lunch break or turn some heads at happy hour, these are your best bet to make that grand impression no matter what scene you step out onto! Give yourself a boost of success this season! Most Creative Every class needs a game-changer or two! When pondering about those individuals who continue to think outside the box – season in and season out – Mr. Wang and Miss Olympia displayed the ultimate inventiveness! Busting out some caped pants and a clutch of box office proportions, however, propelled these two to reigning champ status, seizing the throne of creative classmates! Best Hair Girls, it’s okay to be a little jealous. These two saucy minxes (no pun intended) dominated this spot not just by achieving the ultimate hair tousle! This season’s motto is the more fur, the better! So, let your hair down and be the envy of your friends’ eye! Most Popular For these shoes and this leather, hind trend, the word popular might be an understatement! It was no secret who occupied the feet of some of the most important names of fashion on the steps of Lincoln Center for NYFW this past September, or has managed to find its way onto every wearable piece of item imaginable (i.e. shoulders, leather sweaters, pants, pleated skirts – the works!)! Making these two social butterflies the coolest of cool kids! Best Eyes Here’s looking at you, kid! You don’t have to bat a full pair of lashes to win best eyes this season! Just follow in these two’s footsteps! All it takes is an over-exaggerated, rounded lens and some cat-eye sunnies to take home the prize for Fall’s best! Nycole Sariol

Etro Comes to Bal Habour

Italian designers are no strangers to the upscale universe of Bal Harbour; so it was no surprise that the Italian designer, Etro, known for his exceptional paisley prints and deluxe fabrics, settled in nicely to its new home officially Wednesday, November 13th, on the second floor of the grandiose shopping center. The night was done magnificently with the help of high-profile faces and even higher-priced items, draping the bodies of tall, statuesque models in an applause-worthy presentation of Etro’s Spring/Summer 2014 collection just outside the store. Christmas came early! Guests were greeted with edible delicacies, floating on the trays of young, fresh-faced servers, who made sure no one was left hungry, while cocktails occupied the refined palates of the privileged invitees. Silence was an apparent absconder at the cultivated fashion event; the musical notes of the Dj for the night, clouded the sound waves, but were overtaken by the chatter of the enthusiastic crowd that couldn’t keep quite about the arrival of one of their favorite designers. Miami Fashion Network Launch

Future, South Floridian designers, brace yourselves! Miami wants to help you be the next Givenchy or Proenza Scholer! No, seriously – it does! This past Thursday Miami Fashion Network celebrated the launch of their fashion source database right in the heart of the Design District. The party kicked off with the sweet sounds of the female tag-team, DJs S&M in the always contemporary and artful Arevalo and Sponder Galleries. The who’s who of the Miami Fashion community filled the swanky sphere, dressed in their most capably resplendent outfits, serving as walking, talking, Rick Owens and Celine billboards – leaving no signs of under-dressed patrons in sight! “This directory, miamifashionnetwork.com, is a one-stop shop for designers and suppliers, where everyone can unite and grow their businesses together. We work with designers, who are just trying to start their line, and help them start to finish,” founder and CEO of Miami Fashion Network, Jessica Anderson, shared with us. Textiles, patternmakers, fashion attorneys – you name it, Miami Fashion Network will hand it to you on a silver platter, guiding you step-by-step to success! In addition to providing future hopefuls with the necessary tools in order to triumph in one of the hardest industries to break into, the fashion database also will host a job bulletin, on-site support, and one-on-one education, in which the site assists and coaches design members with marketing strategies, branding, merchandising and beyond!
