Hausammann Gallery Presents Triple Shot and The Unseen Colors

By Justina Coronel Wynwood Art District is the epicenter of Miami’s arts, where you can find walls and warehouses splashed with colorful street art and stroked with a creative atmosphere in an enriching environment. The Hausammann Gallery in Wynwood, known for its displays on the latest trends of urban art, opened its doors Thursday night for the art exhibition Triple Shot that featured the three of the main leaders of the Graffiti Movement. Triple Shot focused on the vibrant, vivid, and exquisite works of these well-known graffiti artists: Poesia, Rae Martini, and Raptuz. Poesia, from San Francisco Bay, has been creating graffiti for twenty-five years and has been internationally shown in cities such as London and Paris. Rae Martini portrayed his early work by coloring the streets and trains in Europe since 1990. He has created powerful images from his past work on trains to conceptual paintings on canvas. Raptuz, from Milan, has been doing graffiti for almost 30 years and is the co-founder of the Italian historical TDK crew. But the graffittism wasn’t the only form of art expression in the room. The gallery also featured the latest book of Italian writer, Marc Di Maggio. As Di Maggio introduced his new book, The Unseen Colors of the 40s, he also described how the book purchases would have a percentage of the proceeds donated to Joe Di Maggio Children’s Foundation. The guests sipped on champagne and enjoyed the deliciousness of traditional Peruvian samples while they observed and glanced around the gallery. Most importantly, through a purchase of a book, guests were able to contribute to those in need for the Joe Di Maggio Children’s Foundation. Now that’s a work of heart. The Miami Beach Edition

By Angela Betancourt Photography Courtesy of The Miami Beach Edition Hotel In 1955, and for many years after, the Seville Beach Hotel in Miami Beach was the talk of the town. The rich, famous, and beautiful flocked here in droves and the hotel was yet another example of the glamour that attracted so many to the city. In 2006, the hotel closed its doors and stood empty and shuttered for years until 2010. After a failed attempt by the Ritz Carlton to take over the property, the Marriot purchased the historic hotel for $57.5 million and tapped famed hotelier Ian Schrager to bring it back to life. Today this historic hotel on 2901 Collins Ave has been transformed into The Miami Beach EDITION, a completely renovated and elegantly designed resort with intricately interlinked complex structures, spaces, and settings. The hotel features 294 rooms; 23 of which are two-story bungalows. All of the rooms are spacious, bright, and elegantly designed with a timeless resort feel and minimal fuss. The property also has 26 residences for those who want to live The EDITION lifestyle on a more permanent basis. Schrager, who is behind the iconic Delano Hotel, wanted to create something that would have a bigger impact and would better represent Miami’s ongoing transformation into a world-class city. Though much of the hotel has been completely redone, guests can still experience a bit of the past through the lobby’s white marble floors and 24-karat gold columns, which have been restored to their full glory. The resort is home to two restaurants from Michelin star chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten: The Matador Room, the signature restaurant that offers his distinctive modern interpretation of Latin cuisine, and a 21st century food bazaar called The Market. The Matador’s seasonal menu is composed of small and large plates including Raw Shaved Florida Red Snapper with Green Chili Dressing, and Gulf White Shrimp in Agua Diablo. The Market is part patisserie, part boulangerie, and part salumeria, and offers pizzas, sandwiches, ceviche to wine, smoothies, and fresh juices. It was created to give guests a new alternative to room service. The hotel’s outdoor area is called Tropicale in honor of the historic 1950’s Havana nightclub Tropicana. Between the two pools, a private beach complete with an outdoor movie screen, a ping pong area, and a fire pit, Tropicale communicates a sense of both fun and relaxation. There are indeed a lot of beautiful things to appreciate about The EDITION, but it would be hard to deny the fun and excitement that takes place in the hotel basement. But don’t be fooled, the Basement at The Miami Beach EDITION is unlike anything found in the city. If you are in the mood for some bowling or would like to ice skate in the middle of the day, then this is the place for you. The Basement is home to a modern day Studio 54 dance club, a four-lane luminescent bowling alley, and a 2,000 square-foot ice-skating rink. All three are open to the public. When it’s time to relax, The Spa at the Miami Beach EDITION offers a wide variety of intriguing therapies and beauty services like the Sticks and Stones massage, and Oxygen Infusion facials. There is also a 24-hour fitness studio, a beauty lounge, and treatment rooms equipped with individual iPads for on-demand music. The Miami Beach EDITION opened during Art Basel last December and instantly became the go-to venue for the rich, famous, and beautiful like the Seville was 60 years ago.   The Miami Beach EDITION Hotel is located at 2901 Collins Avenue, Miami FL 33140 For more information, please www.editionhotels.com/miami-beach

Located at 9011 Collins Avenue, The Surf Club Four Seasons is a luxury residential and hotel development project currently under construction on nine acres of ocean front property. The development is preserving the landmark Surf Club, which was designed by Russell Pancoast in the 1930s. For the past 80 years, the club’s old world charm and glamorous interior made it one of the most exclusive clubs in Miami Beach. Architect Richard Meier, a Pritzker Prize winner, is embracing that history as he creates modern new additions. When the building is complete, there will be two transparent 12 story residential towers, a private membership club, two restaurants, four swimming pools, a state-of-the-art spa and fi tness center, more than 40 beach cabanas, and an expansive park and ocean-side gardens. Today, the neighborhood has found a new identity and has become a hot commodity for real estate. Paraiso Bayviews is the latest addition to Edgewater’s new luxury Paraiso Bay compound, a high-end development project being built by The Related Group. This building and its sister towers are credited for helping infuse new life in the Edgewater area and has become an attractive option for buyers looking for a resort-style environment. In a city dominated by million dollar condos, Paraiso Bayviews is garnering a lot of attention for its affordable prices which start at $340K. However, there are no sacrifices in amenities. Boasting 44 stories and 396 units, the building has a very contemporary architectural design that’s showcased throughout the property. There are lush gardens, outdoor lounge areas, and marina and boat slips. In addition to an onsite restaurant managed by chef Michael Schwartz, residents will also enjoy a private theater, fi tness center, rooftop pool, a tennis court, and much more; all with 1,000 feet of Biscayne Bay waterfront as the backdrop. Each unit is move-in ready and showcases nine foot ceilings, spacious terraces, floor to ceiling resistant glass panels, and modern appliance packages. The project’s international interior and industrial designer Karim Rashid is recognized as one of the most important industrial designers of our time and evolved his trademark colors and bold shapes for a softer more natural approach to the project. Paraiso Bayviews is located at 600 NE 31st Street, Miami, FL 33137 For more information, please visit www.paraisobayviews.com If these three trending residential projects are any indication, it has never been a better time to explore Miami’s flourishing real estate market scene. By Gisel Habibnejad From playing a superhero in Arrow to starring as a key person involved in a drug dealing organization in Power, J.R. Ramirez has quite an acting career under his belt. And, it’s only the beginning. The versatile actor, born in Matanzas, Cuba, found his calling in his early twenties after filming several commercials in Tampa, Florida. He then became eager to study theatre, where his passion for acting grew more and more over the years. For the past year, J.R. has been juggling his roles in Arrow and Power. It was inevitable he would discover a resemblance between the two. “Both characters are similar in that they are very smart and have had an extremely hard upbringing.” The superhero series, Arrow, follows several DC Comics heroes and villains, with its protagonist being Green Arrow. J.R. was cast as Ted Grant/Wildcat in the TV show last year, making his debut in the third season. Ted Grant entered the series as a former boxer and current gym owner for underprivileged children. As the show progresses, fans have been excited to see hints that lead up to his big reveal as Wildcat, his vigilante persona. Preparing for this role has helped him gain a deeper appreciation for boxing. The second season of the STARZ series, Power, will include a lot more of J.R.’s mysterious character, Julio. The show follows a high profile nightclub owner, Ghost, who also runs an exclusive drug dealing organization on the side. That’s when Julio steps in. Julio becomes Ghost’s right-hand man and second in command. Premiering June 6th, viewers will finally get an in-depth look into his story and find out why he’s one of Ghost’s most trusted confidants. “This year, things really seem to spiral out of control. The stakes are ridiculously high and Julio plays an intricate part in making sure things stay as tight as possible. He also shared his excitement for fans to see how his character manages to twist the plot this season. J.R. has also enjoyed working with the cast, such as Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, who plays Ghost’s mentor and is also the show’s executive producer. “50 is a trip!” says the humble actor. “We crack jokes all day. I love how dedicated he is to the growth of his character. I think people are going to be very surprised.” When J.R. was just a child, he and his family made the big move from Cuba to South Florida. His favorite family traditions include Christmastime back home with his family. “Lots of good Cuban food and salsa dancing – can’t beat that!” Today, he resides in Los Angeles and newly enjoys playing golf. “Now, I just have to stop hitting trees, water, and people and it’ll be perfect!” he playfully remarks. Aside from boxing to prepare for his role, his workout routine consists of tennis, hiking, and some yoga classes. With his career on the rise, there’s no telling what heights J.R. will reach. He gushed over his fondness for film and how he would enjoy to be involved in other facets of the industry, stating he will definitely love to direct in the future. Bistro Cassis Brings the South of France Cuisine to South Florida

By Justina Coronel Bonjour and welcome to the newly opened Bistro Cassis that is bringing the South of France to South Florida! This 2,000 square-foot classic French restaurant located at Midtown Miami matches the ambiance of French cafes with bistro chairs and tables, white subway tile walls and floors, and photographs of the City of Lights. Bistro Cassis is the first South Florida restaurant for the successful New York restaurant group, Reststar Hospitality Group. The founder, Fabio Machado and his two sons own ten popular eateries in New York City and Long Island. Bistro Cassis is sprinkled throughout four different New York locations. “Midtown Miami is a wonderful pedestrian neighborhood, with a great mix of restaurants and retail, and we felt that Bistro Cassis would be the perfect addition to the community… we want to be everyone’s favorite corner café – a restaurant that’s perfect for any occasion, any time of the week,” Machado stated. Bistro Cassis is open daily for lunch and dinner. And now, they are even open for brunch as a Sunday tradition-in-the-making. The French cuisine is full of traditional dishes and French favorites such as escargot and frog legs tagged along with modern interpretations. Make sure to save some room for dessert because who can pass up the sweetness of crème brulée with it’s roasted sugar and vanilla custard. Food isn’t the only thing that will make you say oui, oui but so will the signature cocktails. The restaurant has a beautiful old-fashioned wooden bar retrieved from a 1920s era hotel. This vintage piece serves nothing but the best French spirits of innovative concoctions, such as Sangune- the French style sangria with fresh fruit and Pavan liqueur. As Audrey Hepburn said, “Paris is always a good idea.” We are saying, “Bistro Cassis is an even better one.”

Rob Scheppy: Shimmery Shadows & Matte Makeup

CELEBRITY MAKEUP ARTIST LAUNCHES ‘TINI BEAUTY SHADOW PALETTE By Gisel Habibnejad Rob Scheppy, makeup artist and hair stylist to the stars, is anything but ordinary when it comes to makeup. He’s behind the show-stopping makeup trends seen on everyone from the Kardashians to Heidi Klum to Mariah Carey, and so much more. What began as small gigs in Miami took him all the way to Los Angeles where he grew his high profile clientele list. Now, women everywhere can finally be blessed with his magical touch by using his latest makeup venture – Rob Scheppy for ‘Tini Beauty Shadow Palette ($39.50). Rob’s love for makeup and beauty products began as a child, “I grew up in a house full of sisters so I was exposed early to makeup and beauty products, and became fascinated.” His first big break came when he was working at a fashion show, where he was approached with the opportunity to work at the 2008 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in Miami. At the show, he was also granted the opportunity to do makeup for celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Kourtney Kardashian, and Kristin Cavallari. Now, let’s talk about his highly sought after eye shadow palette! Rob Scheppy for ‘Tini Beauty Shadow Palette contains an array of shades that can easily be transformed from day to night, all in one palette. “I wanted a palette of my must-haves as an artist – versatile shades that can be mixed and matched and used in different combinations to create a custom look for any occasion.” What’s his favorite combination of shadows, you ask? Cinnamon-Tini and White Russian. ‘Tini Beauty colors are famously named after cocktails, and this palette is no exception. Rob and the ‘Tini Beauty team researched cocktail names to match each color. Use the matte shades for a daytime look, then switch it up with the shimmery tones for that Hollywood glam nighttime gleam. For summer, his favorite trend is “the warm, subtle shimmer of Rosé Champagne on the lid, on the crease, and along the lash line. Combine this with a dab of Pearl Fizz in the inner corners and brow bones. So easy, fresh, and alluring.” The colors can be used dry, for shadow application and blending; or wet, as an upper lash line eyeliner. To get the best results and use from his palette, he recommends Tweezerman’s shadow brushes to apply and blend the colors when dry. If used as liner, the angled brush works best to get that precise cat-eyed look when wet. Rob has done makeup for a variety of clients and media outlets, such as commercials, major ad campaigns, music videos, TV shows, and more. But, his favorites have to be magazines and weddings, “major magazine covers always make me proud, but being chosen to do clients’ weddings have to be the most meaningful.” His favorite beauty icon is Madonna. He always feels inspired by her trendsetting ways as a risk-taker, re-inventor, and artist. When asked if he would partner up with other beauty brands in the future, he responded positively with: “I love all things makeup, so you never know!” We can’t wait to see what the future holds for this talented artist. The Rob Scheppy for ‘Tini Beauty Shadow Palette is available at tinibeauty.com

Bagatelle: French Cuisine with a Twist

By Angela Betancourt Photography Courtesy of Bagatelle As Miami further cements itself as a major player in the global culinary stage, it continues to attract the attention of celebrated restaurant brands from around the world. Bagatelle, the upscale modern French cuisine restaurant with locations in New York, St. Barth, Los Angeles, Sao Paulo, St. Tropez, and Dubai, is the latest restaurant brand to establish a location in Miami Beach. Bagatelle owners Remi Laba and Auymeric Clemente recently opened the 144-seat location on South Beach at 2000 Collins Ave after much anticipation. Zagat even included it in its Miami’s Most Anticipated Restaurant Openings of 2015 list. Executive Chef Matthieu Godard formerly of Boulud is at the helm serving modern French dishes such as Lamb Horiatiki; Poulet Entier Roti a la Truffe – whole truffled roasted chicken, country style potatoes, caramelized cipollini, button mushrooms, thyme chicken, and Jus; Gambas au Pastis – Jumbo prawn, fl ambé with Ricard anise; and Gnocchi Truffes a la Parisienne – homemade gnocchi, black truffle sauce, with aged parmesan cheese among many others. Bagatelle also offers diners a worldly collection of wines and champagne. The dining experience extends beyond the plate and into the restaurant’s décor. Guests will enjoy their meal or drinks in an environment that makes art an integral part of the dining process. Design company Celano Design kept the familiar looks of its sister locations of beige and white furnishings but accented them with decorative moldings, elegant banquets, and crystal chandeliers. Vibrant pop art provided by the Opera Gallery can also be found hanging on the walls; giving an extra dimension of color. These exclusive pieces of art will constantly rotate and works by artist SEEN, known as the “Godfather of Graffiti,” will be a premier artist on display. In addition to its unique design, Bagatelle is also known for its party atmosphere. The owners have every intention of living up to their reputation of being one of the liveliest culinary destinations in the world. A DJ spinning the latest music hits and live performances throughout the night are to be expected. The music gets louder with each passing hour and there is a “St. Tropez meets South Beach” energy that permeates throughout the entire restaurant. Just like its other locations, Bagatelle has already begun attracting some of the city’s tastemakers and is quickly becoming one of the hottest spots in town. Bagatelle is located at 2000 Collins Ave, Miami Beach, FL 33139 For more information, please visit www.bistrotbagatelle.com

Top Beaches of the World

By Dawn Wilson When traveling to the beach, everyone has their ideal image of how they plan on spending their time. Some people may choose to find an isolated beachfront, where they have the beach all to themselves. While others may want to be surrounded by tourists, moving from one water activity to the next. There is certainly no shortage of beaches for which you are able to design the ideal vacation for you and your family. Here are four of the most popular beach destinations in the world. You can decide which one appeals to you the most and begin making plans to visit on your next vacation. COOK ISLANDS Muri Beach in Rarotonga is one of the most popular beach destinations in the world. It is a white sand beach lined with palm trees around the exterior. The beach, with its Pacific Ocean reef, makes it possible to safely swim here. While it is a fairly quiet beach, you will still find some water sports offered, such as, wind and kite surfing. No trip to Cook Islands would be complete without learning a bit about its history. You can do this by visiting one of the islands’ main attractions, the Cook Island Cultural Village. It is situated in a garden setting with water surrounding it, while performances take place on floating stages. Nightly shows, set overwater, explain the Polynesian history and culture. There are 12 miles of exquisite white sand beaches to explore. Grace Bay Beach is a rather active beach as it offers a variety of sporting activities, such as diving and deep-sea fishing. A favorite attraction at Grace Bay Beach is the private guided horseback tours of Caicos Corral. It is offered just West of the beach where there are few tourists around. This is great for first time riders because they are able to gallop along at a more comfortable pace, while learning how to ride. Experienced riders go at their own pace, enjoying the scenery while riding along the beachfront. If you’ve never experienced a black sand beach, you can experience it for the first time at Lafayette Beach. The waters are calm, warm, and inviting. It is usually very quiet and an ideal place for swimming. Huahine Beach has soft white sand with waters of deep, rich blue hues. Many attractions can be found here, as the waters are ideal for snorkeling and other water activities. A must do while visiting Bora Bora is breakfast by canoe. It is more about the presentation than the food. A canoe will arrive to your bungalow, outfitted with lots of exotic flowers, full of delectable pastries, fresh fruits and juices. You are treated like Polynesian royalty.
